Ruby’s life takes an unexpected turn after she accidentally catches her professor, Graham Sutton (Eidin Jalali), having an affair with a student, Lydia Beaufort (Sonja Weißer). What happens in season 2 of Maxton Hall?

In the second season of Maxton Hallbased on that of Kasten Save youRuby and James face even more obstacles in their relationship from James’ disapproving father, Mortimer Beaufort (Fedja van Huêt), who tries to destroy Ruby’s life every chance he gets.

Much of James’ storyline focuses on him mourning the death of his mother Cordelia (Clelia Sarto), who died of a stroke in season one, helping run Beaufort businesses and trying to be a better version of herself for both Ruby and Lydia, who is pregnant with twins. Ruby makes progress towards achieving her dream of going to Oxford and is accepted into the school, but in the finals she loses everything she has worked for.

The penultimate episode of the season sees Elaine (Eli Riccardi), who is in love with James, and Cyril (Ben Felipe), who has unrequited feelings for Lydia, Lydia and Graham embracing in a woodland couple. Elaine tells Cyril to take a photo, and viewers get the impression that the incriminating photo will spell the end of the season, but it’s a loose ending to season one that comes into play.

In the finale, it is revealed that the director received a photo of Ruby and Graham talking closely at the party from the season one premiere, and thinks they are having an affair. Ruby tries to explain that it was an innocent situation, but a witness’s statement contradicts her story.

Ruby and Graham are immediately expelled from Maxton Hall, just as she was about to take her final scholarship exam to go to Oxford. In the final scene, Lydia and Graham make eye contact as he is escorted into a police car, and Ruby cries as James comforts her.

By the end of the season, Ruby and her family are left with nothing – thanks to Mortimer’s interference. Thanks to him, Ruby’s mother was fired and the bakery her family wanted to buy back was sold, dashing their hopes. Ruby also loses a scholarship offer due to Mortimer’s influence in society.

In her will, Cordelia leaves all her assets, properties and shares in the family businesses to Mortimer, with the exception of James and Lydia, although the twins suspect their father tampered with the document. Mortimer also cuts off James and Lydia financially.
