The format for the Landmark London 2026 world championships is confirmed – and includes a wonderful prospect for home fans.
The host country will compete in a first group stage with the top seven countries in the world ranking.
With two groups of four in both men’s and women’s competitions, this means three guaranteed huge competitions in each category, for packaged grandstands in OVO Arena Wembley.
The results of this initial group stage will determine the Seedings of the eight countries involved and therefore their positions in the trek for the Tour of 32 – which means that there will be at least four guest nation competitions in each category in the competition.
The Centenary Championships will contain 64 men’s and 64 DameS teams, an increase in the 40-team format of recent championships.
Spectators at two locations can enjoy an amazing 262 competitions during the event, with the best athletes from every corner of the world that compete.
The other 56 teams start their campaign in the Copper Box Arena on Tuesday 28 April, with 14 groups of four in each category.
Play will take place in four days and the group winners plus the six best group runners-up will continue to the last 32. The remaining eight second teams will be confronted in a provisional knockout round, which will be the last action in the copper box on 1 May.
The attention then changes to Wembley with the Top-AT group phase that takes place during the weekend of 2-3 May. The round of 32 starts on Monday 4 May and the worlds will build into an exciting climax for seven days, with the women’s final on Saturday 9 May and the men the next day.
