Ciara Mageean, who won European gold last year in the 1500 meters in Rome, has been diagnosed with cancer and is being treated
Ciara Mageean has bravely revealed that she is fighting cancer. The European champion and two -time Olympian shared her struggle with the disease on social media and revealed that she has already started treatment.
In a moving explanation, the 1500m Hardroper showed her solved and stated: “I am ready to face this with the same fight that I have always brought on the track.”
Mageean opened herself in her post and said: “For everyone who was part of my journey so far, I have difficult to share news: I am diagnosed with cancer.
“It has been a lot to record, but I have already started treatment and I am incredibly grateful to be surrounded by the love and support of my family and good friends.”
She further explained: “At the moment my focus is on healing and things take one by one.

“I kindly ask that you respect my privacy and that of my loved ones while we go through this together. Your understanding means more than I can say.”
She thanked for the support received, noted: “Thanks for love and strength. I am ready to face this with the same fight that I have always brought on the track.”
MageEean, who turned 33 earlier this year, had to withdraw the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 due to an injury. She has expressed her ambition to participate in the games in Los Angeles in 2028.
The 1500m specialist merged three times at the European Championships and won Brons in 2016 and Silver in 2022 for a stunning gold medal performance last June.
A stubborn Achilles injury forced her to withdraw from the Olympic Games in Paris, although she had previously participated in the 2016 and 2021 Olympic Games.
MageEean’s illustrious career includes a silver medal on the Commonwealth Games 2022 and a fourth place at the 2023 world championships, which misses a medal with only six tenths of a second. She currently has the Irish national data for the 800m, 1000m, 1500m and the Mile.
