EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) announced the launch of Phase 2 of its vehicle assembly plant in Melaka, increasing annual production capacity from 6,000 units to 30,000 units. The launch was also accompanied by the official production of the CKD GWM Wey G9 model, a luxury MPV plug-in hybrid This is the latest model installed here.

Previously active as a Tier-1 component supplier, EPMB now operates as an integrated vehicle assembly partner for global automotive brands. Phase 1 of the Melaka plant opened in the fourth quarter of 2023 and since then more than 6,000 units of the GWM H6 HEV have been produced.

Pilot production for the BAIC X55 and BJ40 was also completed last November, with full production set to begin in January 2026. For the MG brand, pilot production is expected to begin in February 2026.

According to EPMB, the company’s automotive assembly capabilities are strengthened by a network of parts factories in Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Melaka. Phase 3 is also planned and expected to be operational by the end of the third quarter of 2026. This facility will be supplemented with the ability to paint the vehicle body itself, further increasing localization activities. It will be built next to the Phase 2 factory on an additional eight hectares of land.

This milestone can only be achieved with the trust and cooperation of our OEM partners – GWM, BAIC and SAIC, as well as the dedication and commitment of our employees,” said Hamidon Abdullah, Executive Chairman of EPMB.

He added that EPMB continues to receive interest from more Chinese manufacturers looking for assembly and localization partners in Malaysia. The country is now seen as a growing and competitive automotive hub in the Asia-Pacific region, especially for right-hand drive models.

By strengthening integration with China’s advanced and competitive automotive supply chain, EPMB views Melaka as an assembly center for Chinese manufacturers targeting the Malaysian and ASEAN markets.

In October 2025, EPMB was appointed by SAIC Motor Malaysia as a contract engineer for several MG models. Last year, the company secured long-term assembly contracts from Great Wall Motor and BAIC, for periods of eight and ten years respectively.
