England hunts on another Bazball-like Headingley-Wonder and their first test against India is in the balance.
India’s Kl Rahul (137) hit his ninth test Ton and eighth overseas, while Rishabh Pant (118) became the first Indian who scored for centuries in both innings of a test against England when the hosts day four on 21-0 locked on 21-0, chased 371.
England still needs 350 runs to beat India in the first Rothesay test, live on Sky Sports Cricket From 10.15 am on Tuesday (first ball 11 am).
Asked if sharing the loot in this series opener would be acceptable, England Fast Bowler Josh Tongue said: “No. I think we just go for the victory.
“That is the clear message in the dressing room. It is just as positive as we can. They sometimes go well, so it’s just crucial that we suck that bit of pressure and re -use it to their bowlers.
“I don’t see why we can’t chase that. With our Batting line-up I feel that we can chase something.”
Tong was the main reason for their hasty conclusion, in which a triple Wicket girl was completed with the scalp of Shardul Thakur (4), Mohammed Siraj (0) and Jasprit Bumrah (0). He was decisive against the tail in India’s first innings that also collapsed and is ready to lean in the proposed nickname of Ben Duckett, ‘The Mop’.
“I’ve done it twice now, so maybe I should call myself that,” he said. “When the lower order is in, it is a good opportunity to get some wickets.”
Tong also thought it was suitable for the best hour of Captain Ben Stokes as a test cricket player, to increase his ‘Miracle of Headingley’ in 2019, where a magical century in the third astest against Australia England wore a victory objective of 359 by just a solitary wicket in one of the most incredible test competitions.
India’s Centurion Rahul believes that it will be a “blockbuster finish” with the wicket that tricks plays after four days of wear.
“It’s a blockbuster finish that waits to happen,” said Rahul Sky Sports Cricket.
“When the test match started, I felt that the Wicket was a beautiful Batting Wicket and I thought this would go to a draw. But today the Wicket played tricks and there is also a bit rough for Bumrah.
“If we can get a few wickets early in the first hour, this will be a very interesting test match.
“There will definitely be a result [tomorrow]. That is what England said very openly [they don’t want draws]And their style of cricket suggests that too, so it gives us a good opportunity to choose 10 wickets. “
When asked about the comments of the tongue about the fact that there was no scenario in which a draw would be a good result, Rahul replied: “I agree with the tongue.”
England succeeded in surviving six overs of Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj (0-9) and Ravindra Jadeja (0-3) during the last half hour of day four without losing a wicket.
“Coming through that new ball period will be the key for England tomorrow,” said Former England Fast Bowler Stuart Broad.
“I think India should be favorites in a day five pitch. They only have to create 10 chances and they have to take their catches.
“But England will talk to itself in the dressing room and think they are favorites.
“[Shubman] Gill [India’s captain] Has a responsibility to use the bowlers well. They have to come in and hit the field as hard as possible. “
The hosts are now entering the last day and need 350 more points to win with all 10 wickets intact, a large order that would ever have been considered a mission impossible.
But it was only three years ago, in the early days of Ben Stokes’ captain, that they chased a record 378 on Edgbastone against the same opponents. Better yet, they did it for the loss of only three wickets and roaring home in the 77th.
