England 7-0 Jamaica: Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses go in this summer’s European championships after a cracking victory against Jamaica, but there were a few nervy moments

England players celebrate their opening goal against Jamaica

England was given an exciting reception due to a lively Leicester-Mermany when she signed for their Euro 2025 campaign with an Ella Toon inspired victory against Jamaica. There were nerve moments between the first half of the goals of Tone and Lucy Bronze, but the lionesses grew in the game and were never in trouble after that second came in.

The Sarina Wiegman team won 6-0 against Portugal in their last Wembley match and brought the opposition goal again with Schoten. It could have been 3-0 long before Toone got her second and the third of England in the first half of the stop time, with two players refused by the woodwork.

Georgia Stanway added a fourth for England just before the hour, rifle the ball at home from the box. And Alessia Russo, one of the better artists of England in the King Power Stadium, was given the goal that her performance earned 20 minutes of time.

Fans were left to give the players a broadcast before they go to Switzerland to defend the title they won in 2022 on a home floor. They will have to do this without Mary Earps, Fran Kirby and Millie Bright – three influential figures from that triumph – but Wiegman still has a team full of talent from the top of the WSL and beyond.

One of those experienced players is toone, and it was the midfielder of Manchester United who curled in the opener of England with just 10 minutes. The 25-year-old was left for Jess Park as the furthest advanced midfielder and justified her selection by beating Liya Brooks from the edge of the box.

England dominated the early procedure, but was disappointed when a Jamaica equalizer was excluded from offside. Kayla McKenna ran away and celebrated the unpaved Hannah Hampton after her efforts, but referee Franziska Wildfeuer consulted the VAR monitor and ruled that Kiki van Zanten – stood in an offside position for Hartton – the English keeper.

Jamaica continued to threaten, and a creaking Jess Carter -Tackle prevented Van Zanten from gaining a clear view. And the Gotham FC then made an essential contribution to the other end and sent a devil’s cross for fellow defender Lucy Bronze to nod home.

Lauren Hemp came close to a third before the break and sent a shot against the post after a neat movie from Bronze. Not long afterwards, Russo shot the bar, but Toone made sure that the third time was happy with shots of the woodwork while she cleared a shot that beat the inside of the post on the way.

In the second half, Wiegman was able to look carefully at some other squadron members, with the game out of sight. She said before the game that she would manage James James in the minutes after injury, but the Chelsea star got the best part of half an hour after replacing a tone as part of a triple change.

Beever-Jones had less time, but both women had a role to play in goals in late England. James’ teasing Cross founded Russo for the fifth before Brever -Jones – after he came close with a few pinks – slid home a sixth after combining with colleague Sub Niamh Charles.

There was a scary moment when Beth Mead went down in a stopping time, but the attacker was ok and could continue. Not only that, but she added extra shine to the score at death when England made it seven.
