England has defeated India on a dramatic last day of a pulsating third test at Lord’s, who won with 22 points.

India resumed the game on the morning of day five out of 59 to four, before lost four wickets for 53 points in the first session.

During lunch, an English victory almost inevitable, but some resilience of Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah gave the tourists to hope.

That resilience was undone when Bumrah – after dealing with his first 53 deliveries with the greatest patience – was tempted to pull a short ball from Ben Stokes.

The unnecessary resignation of Bumrah left India nine nine down and needed 46 more runs for an unlikely victory.

All hope rested on Ravindra Jadeja, who finally ended unbeaten 61 when India’s no 11 Mohammed Siraj almost comically fell to Shoaib Bashir.

More to follow.
