England 4-0 The Netherlands: Governing of European Champions England still has their fate in its own hands at Euro 2025 after making light work of the Netherlands in Zurich
England went against the Netherlands in their match with the risk of elimination of Euro 2025, but finished in their own hands with their fate. A crushing victory for the Lionesses means that a victory against Wales in their last group game will endure them- and they still have a chance to win their group
Two goals from the first half set the Sarina Wiegman team on its way, with Lauren James and Georgia Stanway both shoot home from a distance. James got her second around the hour, with Ella Toone who rubbed salt in Dutch wounds.
Wiegman has only made one change in the starting XI that started the match against France. Toone started in the role of number 10, where James went to the right and Beth Mead dropped to the couch.

England also mixed things positively. Jess Carter moves to the middle after a tough evening against France and Alex Greenwood shift to the left.
The Dutch have also made one change to their staff, where Danielle van de Donk loses for Chasity Grant in an attacking formation. Both teams had opportunities in the opening for 10 minutes, and Alessia Russo will have the feeling that she might have put the lionesses in front when they rose the highest to meet a Lauren Hemp Cross, but nodded just wide from the distant pole.
England had the lead in the first quarter of the game, but the same was where on Saturday. It was necessary that they benefited from that promise, and James offered a moment of real quality to put them in the front.
Russo’s running from the front is a real asset and the Arsenal star helped to get things moving again after collecting a fantastic long ball forward from goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. She waited for the right time to feed James, who was allowed to find that little bit extra space that she needed before she sends an unstoppable attempt in the top corner of the Daphne van Domselaar network.
A 1-0 lead during the break would have been encouraging, but a second goal would offer breathable space. And that is exactly what we got in stopping time when Georgia Stanway shot one in the bottom corner from 25 meters after a little uncertainty in and around the Dutch box.
Russo thought she had a third for England only five minutes after the restart, only for an offside flag to intervene. Just as with her rejected effort against France, it was a player in the structure who was the perpetrator, in this case Leah Williamson, instead of Russo himself.
The Netherlands started to find their groove after that disappointment, in which Victoria Pelova saw a shot bent off for a corner and chasity subsidy that was behind, but chose the wrong option. England, however, was always capable of a third, and it came around the hour.
All members of the front four of the lions were involved, Lauren Hemp who turned away from her marker and sent a cross where Russo could not get clean contact. Toone waited and might have done better with her efforts, but a Dutch block saw the ball fall to James and she did the rest.
Then it was Tone’s turn to get the hand, and the willing runner Russo had a role to play again. The striker took her time to discharge the ball, ignored one option before giving a decision, and the number 10 rode a challenge before he shot low over from Domselaar and in the far corner.
