Emma Raducanu continued her good shape while booking a place in the third round of the National Bank Open in Montreal with a Straight-Sets victory over Peyton Stearns.
The World No 33 turned out to be too strong for the American 32nd seed, a few breaks in every set that won a 6-2 6-4 victory.
Raducanu, who arrived at the WTA 1000 event fresh of an impressive semi-final in the Citi open last week, had won two earlier meetings with stearns and an early break brought her control over the first set.
She again broke into a long -term eighth game to close the set, but fell halfway through the second when double errors crawled into her game.
The British No. 1 broke back to the level at 4-4 and a last break completed a series of four consecutive games to achieve a place in the last 32.
“I know that Peyton is a really tough opponent, we have played twice in the past and have always had really long games,” Raducanu said after the game.
“I am really happy with how I got through in that game. I lost my focus on a few moments in the second set and she benefited, but very happy that I came across a top opponent and liked to expand my stay in Montreal.
‘I just want to thank [to supporters]I saw the Union Jack in clutch moments and I was actually born in Canada, so to come back and for me it means so much to do well here and very happy to be in the next round. “
Raducu will be confronted in the third round with Wimmbeledon -Finalist Amanda Anisimova or the Lulu -Zon van Nieuw -Zeeland.
