Distribution is ‘super hard’ to solve, says Elon Musk
In response to a post on social media platform X on Monday, Musk shared his thoughts on Nvidia’s revelation. “What they’ll find is that it’s easy to get to 99% and then super hard to solve for the long tail of the distribution,” Musk said in the post.
However, Tesla’s CEO still wished for Nvidia to experience success in its self-driving exploits. “I really hope they succeed,” Musk said.
Ashok Elluswamy echoes Musk
Musk’s thoughts were also echoed by Tesla’s AI chief, Ashok Elluswamywho also outlined challenges in distributing the technology. “The long tail is sooo long that most people can’t comprehend it,” Elluswamy said in his message. He had previously touted Tesla’s chip-building efforts and outlined the EV giant’s synergistic approach to building AI hardware.
Nvidia’s self-driving technology
The comments come as CEO of Nvidia Jensen Huang unveiled the chipmaker’s Alpamayo model, which relies on a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model with human-like reasoning capabilities. “The ChatGPT moment for physical AI has arrived: when machines start to understand, reason and act in the real world,” Huang said, adding that Robotaxis would benefit from the technology.
Nvidia also announced that it would collaborate with the German automaker Mercedes Benz to offer a Level 2 driver assistance system based on the chipmaker’s full-stack AV software. This comes after the chipmaker entered into a partnership with European car manufacturers last year.
Robotaxi from Tesla
On the other hand, Tesla has been making steady growth in its Robotaxi, although it has failed to achieve Musk’s goal of having self-driving operations in Austin by the end of last year. However, the CEO said that a Tesla Model Y robotaxi drove him around autonomously at the end of last year.
Several Tesla Cybercab prototypes have also been spotted testing in Austin and California. Musk had shared that production of the vehicle would be scaled up in 2026.
Tesla scores well on the Momentum and Quality metrics, but offers poor value. It also has favorable price developments in the medium and long term. For more such insights, subscribe to Benzinga Edge Stock Rankings Today!
