When Morven Lean visited her doctor for a contraceptive pill check at the age of 24 in 2015, days before she was going to travel in South America, the last thing she expected was a hospital stay.

But a follow -up call from her doctor left her plans in cover.

Encouraged to take a second blood pressure check, she was rushed to A&E and admitted to Sky High Figures.

Despite the fact that she came from the pill, her measurements remained dangerously raised and was diagnosed with essential hypertension – where no specific cause is identified. Without a family history of the condition it came as a shock for the now 34-year-old mother of two, depicted on the left.

“I was super young and super fit and regularly won half marathons,” says Morven. “Every doctor I saw said:” You are not our usual patient. ” ‘

Charity employee Mathven was prescribed the ACE inhibitor Ramapril and advised to continue exercising, eating healthy and checking her blood pressure.

In 2021, while she tried for a baby, she came from the tablets and opted for the Dash diet-a low salt plan that is designed to lower blood pressure.

It is about avoiding dairy, red meat and sugar. Her lectures fell quickly and she finished from Ramapril forever.

She was only prescribed the Beta Blocker -Labellabalol during the birth in 2023, after her blood pressure had risen again.

“My hypertension could have been missed,” she says. “You can pick up a blood pressure monitor for just Ā£ 20 and they can really save your life.”
