EHL: New Wimbledon Signings Fire Opening Win

The much-changed panel from Wimbledon opened their English men’s campaign with a lively 8-4 victory while they look at bed in different newcomers.

Of those additions, USA International Kaeppeler (Van Hampstead & Westminster) scored twice on debut from the game, while Louis Tipper (from East Grinstead) was also about to do.

There were also debut for the Welsh International goalkeeper Toby Reynolds-Cotterill, Zach Mason (from Richmond) and Alex Sheldon (East Grinstead) this week.

It compensates for the departure during the summer from Fred Newbold to Hurley in the Netherlands, Rhys Bradshaw, Joe McConnell, Ore Ogunlana, Sam McCulloch and the retirement of Ed Horler.

Despite the changes, they went to a flying start with Kaeppeler, which she released in the front in the fourth minute and they built a 5-0 lead in the break.

Reading lowered the gap with two goals in the third quarter, but Wimbledon remained out of reach with the new captain Sam Hooper (photo) who aroused a hat trick of corners.

He is one of their international stars together with Ben Fox, while the powerful presence of Liam Ansell gives them another big threat to their EHL challenge when they come up against Hamburger Polo Club.

It will be their sixth EHL campaign, their best run is their 2016/17 campaign when they reach the Final4 in Brasschaat.
