Newcastle United was hit by Everton in their last Premier League match of the season on Sunday, but still qualified for the Champions League after the controversial loss of Aston Villa at Manchester United
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe hopes that the power and pull of the Champions League will help him strengthen his team this summer after he survived a final day.
The 1-0 home defeat on Sunday against Everton sweated the Magpies over a place in the top five of the Premier League, and they eventually needed a helping hand from elsewhere to add qualification to their Carabao Cup success.
Howe, who, however, was unable to make a single major signing in the last three files, while he sees Elliot Anderson, Yankuba Minth, Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, leave St James’ park while the club is fighting to meet the expenditure restrictions, the dense season.
He said: “The power of the Champions League and the attraction of the Champions League is huge and we cannot get away from it, the excitement that this will bring for the people here. And of course it is a sales argument for us, it is an opportunity for us to sell that dream to future players who may be considering coming to us.
“We must get the financial data right, we must get any other aspect of trying to sign players well here, and hopefully we can do that.”

The comparison for Newcastle before the kick-off was simple: win and Champions League football was guaranteed.
But Everton had very different ideas and when Charly Alcaraz led the visitors in a 65th minute’s lead, the dream hung on a thread.
The side of Howe was far away from their flowing best, because the enormous size of what was at stake seemed to weigh heavily on them, but eventually won the results elsewhere-Chelsea in Nottingham Forest and 10-man Aston Villa lost 2-0 at Manchester United-Zag the upper hand after the last people.
Howe had insisted in advance that he did not want to know what happened in the other games, but admitted that it had changed when events unfolded.
He said, “You think,” This may not happen today, what happens elsewhere? “
For Everton boss David Moyes, the season ended in a high tone with a third consecutive victory.
Moyes said: “I thought it was a great achievement, the character that the players showed during the game. We didn’t really need anything today, we couldn’t really change our competition position, but you wouldn’t have thought that with the way the players performed today.
“I thought they were beautiful, perhaps as good as we have been in some ways, so it says a lot about the attitude of the players, their dedication.
“It would have been easy for them, what they say, being on a beach. They were certainly not today.”
