Ed Brown Society and Churchill Downs cultivate the next generation professionals in the industry

The Ed Brown Society (EBS) and Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) continue to invest in the future of the horse industry by opening doors for increasing talent through opportunities for career.

CDI recently hired Ed Brown Alumni Driade Freitas and Nigel Snow as business analysts via CDimmerse – the very coveted program that offers emerging professionals the opportunity to be immersed in the activities of four CDI business units for two years. Both started their new roles on the CDI head office on 2 June.

Freitas earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Computer Information Systems from Florida Memorial University in May. She also completed an impactful spring internship in 2024 with 1/ST racing by the Ed Brown Scholars & Fellows program.

“An ED Brown -Behr -gave me early exposure to the industry and helped me to better understand his landscape,” Freitas said. “Partnerships such as these help to expand access and consciousness for students like me who may not have been considered in the industry before.”

Snow earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management in May at the University of Kentucky. In preparation for this option, he completed a marketing internship at Churchill Downs last summer via the Ed Brown Scholars & Fellows program.

“My career goals have become clearer thanks to the guidance and support I receive from EBS,” Snow said. “Through CDI I get an even deeper appreciation for the sport and the innovation that drives it ahead. I am very happy to start my career in this way!”

Ed Brown Scholars Rebecca Otieno and Ella Norris follow a similar path of the aforementioned Ed Brown -Alumni, through summer internships at Churchill Downs.

This summer, Otieno has interned in the Marketing & Partnerships department.

“Prior to this role, the majority of my experience in the management of social media – creating images, roles and managing content,” Otieno explained. “This summer I was introduced to the research and strategic side of marketing, which gave me a better understanding of what a career as a marketing strategist could look like. This internship and other aspects of the Ed Brown Scholars & Fellows program continue the much needed clarity and direction for my professional plans.”

In the meantime, Norris has interned this summer as a CRM analyst. Norris thinks about why she became a member of the Ed Brown Society and shared: “The history that EBs emphasized resonated deep with me and was an important motivating factor to become a member.”

A self -described ‘numbers girl’, Norris was enthusiastic to discover how her math skills could translate into a career in the thoroughbred industry.

“As a CRM analyst at Churchill Downs, it has been crucial in shaping my career goals. It has shown me how to stimulate data and technology fan engagement and business strategy in this industry. I have developed a strong interest in the use of analyzes to tell stories to improve and CLANDAREMENT, Idealaliter, Idealaliter, Idealaliter, and Klaanterdaringen experiences. Just like Churchill -Downs. ”

Otieno starts her last year at the University of Louisville, where she completes her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Norris starts her last year at the University of Kentucky, where she completes her Bachelor of Science in the mathematical economy.
