21 UFC contracts were distributed by the first five episodes of Dana White’s Contender Series So far this year. What does DWCs have in store for Vecht fans this week?
Last week DWCS 2025 Week saw 5 four contracts awarded, including one to Steven Asplund, who rattled a fairly unique interview after the fight with an offer to suck Dana White’s toes. We … will probably not see that in week six. Probably.
What we will see is the return of Ireland’s Paddy McCorry, a veteran of Cage Warriors who may be known to UFC fans after he appeared on The ultimate hunter 32 Last year. Judo champion IWO Baraniewski also appears and has an unbeaten record with a 100% finish speed.
We have scouted all the action, so let’s let our last breakdown for Dana White’s Contender Series Season 9.
Bantamweight, Hecher Sosa (13-1) vs. Mackson Lee (9-0)
Remarkable
- Lee has an advantage of five inches
- Sosa is 4-0 against Brazilians
- SOSA still has 25 fights than Lee as pro and amateur
- SOSA is 4-0 for the decision
- Lee has never seen the score cards
- SOSA and LEE have finishes in rounds one, two and three
- Lee has fought seven boys with a losing record. Five of those without victory
- Lee has split victories via KO/TKO and entry
- SOSA has completed its last five opponents
- Lee has only three fights in five years
- American debut for both men
Hecher Sosa
Advantages:
-Ont -up legs
-Dangrijke knees
-Explosive
-Active soil and pound
-Mixing striking patterns
Disadvantages:
-Fillable in exchanges
-Hands low
-Sloppy hands sometimes
It was only a matter of time before SOSA earned this opportunity – or a direct UFC signature. With Ilia Topuria who flies the flag for Spain and the UFC that looks at a potential event there, Sosa stands out as the best prospect of the country.
Sosa mainly forms a striker, also pays a real threat to the ground with heavy ground-and-pounds and a talent for grabbing the neck in clambering. While he has been removed earlier, his overall removal of Takedown usually stopped.
On the feet it is a bit unorthodox on the feet. In extensive exchanges, his technology can become wild and his hands tend to stray from the manual form. That said, he has a fresh lead link hook and is slippery when he fades out of the bag with those links. He also throws heavy legs, although he could take advantage of the more consistent setting up of them.
Defensively he keeps his hands low, but so far his head movement and footwork are sufficient to prevent major damage. SOSA is fighting at a rapid pace, bears real power and has the explosiveness to shift the momentum of a fight in an instant. Yet there are questions about how good his style will translate into the UFC level, because his victories have usually come to the lower opposition.
Mackson Lee
Advantages:
-used length well
-Good kicks
-Active sham movements
-Dynamic
-Paling threat
-Explosive
Disadvantages:
-Hands low
Lee burst the scene with his LFA debut last August, where he had an immediate impact by turning the highly regarded Mateus Soares off. At the time, Lee was almost unknown, he had only fought once in the previous four years and only competing at smaller regional shows.
Lee is 6’1 ″ and is a huge bantam weight that uses its length well, both on the feet and when attacking entries. His record is equally divided between knockouts and submissions, with his dual-DREAT finishing capacity. Although images from his earlier career are hard to find, it is clear that he has evolved considerably from the hunter he was five years ago.
Lee is in the first place a striker who fights almost exclusively. The majority of his attack comes from his legs – he works the teep to the body, cuts to the legs and often throws rotating stairs to both the body and the head. An area for growth is his shot; To his size, a consistent puncture would be an important weapon and open the rest of his game.
Until now, no opponent has been able to close the distance and to disturb his rhythm, which leaves some unanswered questions – in particular whether it is his skills or large benefit that drives his success. That said, when opponents shoot at him, Lee effectively uses his long limbs to attack submissions at the transition.
In just 26 years old, Lee is clearly talented but still rough on the edges. With constant development, he has the tools to become a serious competition in the division.
Prediction: This should be a nice fight as long as it takes – I don’t expect it to go the distance. Both hunters are mainly strikers, and I see the action staying on the feet. Stylistically, I think SOSA will have trouble finding its reach against someone with Lee’s height and movement.
SOSA can have some success with legs, but he will have to be careful to be a sharp opposer and will be ready to fire back. SOSA tends to fight in Bursts and likes to throw that switch knee, but landing something like that against a long, Rangy striker like Lee is a tough question.
What I see happen is that SOSA gets frustrated as the fight wears out, forcing an entry that exposes him. Lee catches him inside-probably with a check hook or something over the top and follows with ground and pounds for the finish.
