Dr. Pierre Nel is an oncologist during the day, but when it comes to staying in shape, the man who simply calls music fans “Nelven” prescribes a large dose of “iron therapy”. M&F An appointment with the singing doctor to learn more about his approach to building body and mind, and we still can’t get his new song; ‘Melody’ by heart.

Nelven was born in a city in South Africa called Tzaneen before moving to the fierce lights of Pretoria. Here, as a doctor, he takes care of cancer patients about day. “It requires a lot of heart to break bad news in a way that really happens as caring and not just clinical,” he explains. “But the good news is that it is also very worthwhile. If you win, it is worth it.” Undoubtedly his daily job accuracy and logic requires, but there is another side to Nelven who helps him to let steam in the prime minister “music is definitely my creative outlet,” he says. “I think it is very important to be aware of your own mental health. Performing music and staying fit in the gym are the two places where I can bend and just grab myself again.”

Music and muscles are indeed inextricably linked to Nelven. His eclectic training playlist varies from Green Day, One Republic, Benson Boone and thirty seconds to Mars to the Disney Classic and Miley Cyrus. “So I decided that I wanted to write this related heartache punk rock anthem, but also keep it a kind of punk pop situation,” he says M&F. “That’s how Melody was born.” Melody, now streaming, is the story of missing a friend who has raised and left him, but the medical musician says that missing the gym is not an option. Instead, he is on a complete recipe from ‘Iron Therapy’.

Nelven prescribes ‘Iron Therapy’ to keep a fit body and mind

The doctor explains that staying healthy must be a habit that is practiced for a long time for physical exertion. “Focus on liquid intake and make sure you get enough sleep for recovery,” he suggests. The budding star also plants the intensity of his training courses based on regular check -in with himself or ‘listening to my own capacity’, as he explains. “If I feel that this might be a four -week sports period, I actually listen to my body when it comes down to it,” he explains. “And I have only seen growth from those periods of a bit of slowing down. I think it’s great to use your active periods to build that momentum, but you also have to be flexible to have that momentum established in muscle growth.”

In the gym, Nelven splits his training sessions. He takes a day for legs, shoulders, chest and triceps, back and biceps, and then another day only focused on back. But with every session the singer builds a number of core work to help that ABS pop. “Although abdominal muscles are made in the kitchen, you have to train them to stand out and be well defined,” he explains. “And then I will spend my fifth or sixth day, double one of the previous sessions. It all depends. If I look at myself in the mirror, which area I want to see a little more growth? That is usually a second saline day or a second breast day.”

Because of his busy week as a doctor, Nelven says that he will reserve the doubling days before the weekend. “Great to take some extra time and work on the finer muscle movements,” he notes. “And I have seen that doubling a certain muscle group really increases the growth, especially because you take the time to concentrate on the muscle itself and its different areas.”

Nelven takes a ‘fatigue then’ and food approach to building muscles

The Buff Doctor explains that with composite movements such as the Bench Press, he likes to be four sets heavy, and strives for eight to 10 repetitions, but is more than happy to fail at six. “My slogan is” tired them, nourish them, “he explains, and notes that he was a” skinny guy “with little confidence before he discovered resistance training. “Striving for failure is a good thing, especially in the gym,” he notes. “And it says so much about your endurance and your mental power to push yourself to the point of absolute failure.”

When it comes to feeding those tired muscles, the muscle -bound medial professional likes to take amino acids for training, so that they are abundantly in his bloodstream. He then pounds a high protein meal after training. “I tend to have a lot of clean proteins. I eat a lot of chicken fillets and it is actually quite easy to meet your macros and still have low-calorie meals. I am currently just in a slight calorie deficiency, but I see high proteins, and I see a beautiful growth,” he shares.
