After slowing the pace last week, tonight was a different story.
Downers Delight and Itsrockandroll A both exploded at the same time at the start of the race.
Downers Delight is driven to the top. Itsrockandroll A (Russell Foster) accepted the pocket trip. Muskateer Hanover, who won this race last week, was sent off as the 1/5 betting favorite.
Driver Allan Davis briefly attempted a quarter pole move with Muskateer Hanover, but wisely ducked back past the pylons in third.
Downers Delight gained the early advantage but may have paid the price when the opening quarter recorded a taxing quarter of 25.3.
Driver Pat Berry reduced the speed of Downers Delight and went half way back in 54.4, a breather of 29.1.
Downers Delight continued to advance up the backstretch. Muskateer Hanover was the first to gain momentum and charged hard in pursuit of the pacer. Both pacers came face to face through the three quarters in 1:22.4, a 28 flat throws. Wehadababyetzaboy drafted second over and Itsrockandroll A gained momentum in the pocket
In deep stretch Downers Delight started to pull away and won by a length and three quarters. He completed his mile in 1:50.4 and paid back $8.60 for the win.
DOWNERS DELIGHT REPEAT
Itsrockandroll A sprinted past the pylons late, but finished second.
Muskateer Hannover finished third.
