Almost all players are reflexive to cover against the cross -court shot. They are also ready for the Line shots, but players play the tendency to play more Cross Court, and Cross Court gives opponents a larger approach that you have to watch. And so players guard that side more.
You could just go along the line. It is somewhat more risky because there is less table, and it gives your opponent a potential wide crosscourt corner. So it can be a gamble if you are not careful. But there is a simple way to have it paid almost every time.
Since opponents are already inclined to cover against the cross -court shot, give it to them – or at least fake it. Prepare that shot, even aim your racket that way. You don’t have to wait if the opponent moves against it – he is. If you wait to verify, it’s too late. Instead, you expect that he will cover your Cross Court recording at the moment, that is when you change direction and go the other way. Then look at your opponent Lunge and Blail at your shot!
You can do this with both Forehand and Backhand. There is a simple way to learn how you can make these recordings, which you have set up on the one hand, and then go the other way on the last second. It is an old secret, but I will give it – practice! If you practice it in exercises or in practice competitions, it will be there for you in the big competitions.
