“Powell did what central bankers do best in Jackson Hole – he kept the door open,” said Nigel Green, Chief Executive of Devere Group. “A reduction in September would reassure households and companies that the central bank is not asleep behind the wheel. Only outlines the chance of a harder landing.”
Traders stimulated bets on an interest rate reduction of September after the comments from Powell, and now placed a chance of almost 90% on a reduction, versus about 75% before Powell’s comments.
The industrial average of Dow Jones rose 846.24 points, or 1.89%, to 45,631.74, which surpassed his most recent record on December 4, 2024. The S&P 500 achieved 96.74 points, or 1.52%, up to 6,466.91 and the Nasdaq Composite dated 396,22 points or 1.88%, up to 21.496.54.

US shares have returned strongly from LOS points of April – when markets were rattled by the tariff announcements of President Donald Trump. Indexes have recently returned to include highlights.
A wave of resilient income, optimism on trade agreements and growing opportunities for cutbacks on the interest rate have been some of the most important profit drivers, although some concerns exist.

In addition to other top movers, Intel won by 5.5%, because the White House was expected to announce the acquisition of a 10% interest in the company on Friday. Coinbase also rose 6.5% when investors picked up crypto-related shares after Powell’s speech.
Intuit fell around 5% after the TurboTax maker predicted the revenue growth of the first quarter among the estimates of analysts as a result of weak performance on the MailChimp marketing platform.
Workday declines 3% after the Human Resources software provider offered an in-line prospect for the current quarter.
Striking issues surpassed decliners with a ratio of 9.43 to 1 in the NYSE. There were 590 new highlights and 42 new lows on the NYSE.
The S&P 500 placed 37 new 52 weeks of highs and no new lows, while the Nasdaq composite 166 new highlights and 47 new lows recorded.
The volume at American stock exchanges was 17.93 billion shares, compared to the average of 17.08 billion for the entire session during the last 20 trade days.
