The exclusion of Shreyas Iyer from the Asia Cup 2025 team of India has created a storm, but Sunil Gavaskar has made it clear that external opinions have no room in the debate.
The former Captain of India has hit strongly with foreign cricketers who criticized Ajit Agarkar and the selection committee for leaving Iyer.
Gavaskar concludes overseas criticism
Without naming names, Gavaskar focused on people like Ab de Villiers and Brad Haddin, who in surprise expressed about the omission of Iyer. He wrote in his Sportstar -Kolom, he said:
“Foreigners who have no interest in the Indian cricket, and much less knowledge about this, wad in the debate. The selection of the Indian team is strictly not of their things.”
Gavaskar added that Indian players never comment on the squadrons of other countries and expected the same courtesy in return. “They must concentrate on the cricket of their country and worry about ours,” he wrote.
‘Doing for followers’
The battle legend did not stop there. He accused foreign ex-cricketers of making negative comments about India, just to stimulate their own viewers on podcasts and YouTube.
“One of the fastest ways to increase the number is by commenting on the business Indian,” Gavaskar wrote, and hinted that haunting reactions from Indian fans has become a trend.
He also blamed sections of the Indian media for fueling the fire by looking for foreign opinions.
“It is almost as if validation about the Indian cricket must be obtained from foreign players,” Gavaskar noted.
Shreyas Iyer, who recently led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, has been one of the remarkable omissions of the Asian Cup team of India. Although his absence at home has distributed the opinion, the sharp words of Gavaskar make it clear that he does not want outsiders to dictate the conversation.
