Alexander Isak was again the most important topic of conversation in Villa Park on Saturday.
However, the story is completely distorted.
Don’t let the truth stand in the way of a good story.
The media (and many fans of Newcastle United) desperately to push the idea that if Alexander Isak had been on the field on Saturday, United would certainly have won.
Nobody knows what would have happened if Alexander Isak, or even another alternative player, had played in Villa Park instead, for better or worse.
It was a great result and even better performance, especially in the circumstances. Very important Newcastle did not lose, for all sorts of reasons.
However, there is this story to want to devalue these excellent performance and to only make it about not taking the many opportunities that have been created. Instead of crediting the forward trio and those behind them for the overall game and creativity.
If Alexander Isak would certainly have made the difference on Saturday, why didn’t he do during earlier visits to Villa Park. Isak never scored in Aston Villa in his three years in the club and was completely anonymous in April when United offered almost no attacking threat, when Schar scored in the 4-1 defeat. While Alexander Isak was not great last season, Newcastle won 3-1 in Villa Park, but that was a token of two goals from Shard and his own goal.
This is not with Alexander Isak (however, many other reasons at the moment!), It is more about how ridiculous the story has become.
Alexander Isak is a quality striker that is currently not playing for Newcastle United, but this club and the team are about more than just him.
Aston Villa has not lost at home in the Premier League since he lost to Arsenal in the first home game last season in August 2024.
Aston Villa has only lost four of their last 45 Premier League home matches, including those 3-1 to NUFC in January 2024.
To go there on Saturday and by far the better team, is a great effort.
Everyone means how poor villa was.
The reality is that Newcastle was so good in that first half yesterday that they did not allow Aston Villa to get started. Think of last season, when (with Alexander Isak!) United was dominated by Villa from the start of the game, with the commitment shown by the entire team yesterday, with defensive work that started from the front, that would never happen.
Even when Villa came out for the second half and tried a little, they were not due to the defensive discipline of this entire United Elf.
Yes, Newcastle United is better with a fully fit, fully focus, fully dedicated Alexander Isak in their team.
Yesterday, however, an excellent Newcastle United Team performance without him was a great result and could have and should have been three points if taking part of the opportunities created.
This is one of the most difficult games of the season for Newcastle, which comes to Villa Park.
Everyone who tries to devaluate how United played on Saturday is very mistaken.
