Former UFC Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz still has a big resentment against referee Keith Peterson.
Dominick Cruz announced his retirement of MMA earlier this year after his planned last fight in UFC Seattle was scratched due to an injury in the camp. Despite the abrupt end of his fighting career, Cruz is a likely future UFC Hall of Famer and perhaps the largest bantam weight in the history of promotion.
Cruz’s attempt to become a triple UFC Bantamweight champion, did not fall to the goal when he lost to Henry Cejudo on UFC 249 by TKO. The fight was the Co-Main event of the return from the UFC to action due to COVID-19.
In the years since UFC 249, Cruz has remained extremely critical about the abrupt socket of referee Keith Peterson for the fight.

During a recent appearance on the Maximum Podcast, Cruz, went one step further in thinking about the controversial interruption of Peterson.
“The way the fight went, I’m on my feet, I’m awake. No nonsense Keith Peterson is a complete F – for that,” said Cruz.
“Only a sporting event in the world, a second on the clock. I did my job as a hunter, and he failed as a referee. A complete failure, and on several occasions he kept doing it. So yes, that fight got away from me, and it taught me that yes, I was hit and I shouldn’t be cut.
“I am dropping almost every fight, I get up and you hope you – immediately afterwards … there is a game that we play, took half of my check from me, because he wanted to look at Henry and listen to him,” Cruz continued. “Dude, you are a weak. Weak person for that. So bring your life together and come back and come in and ref.”
At the moment Peterson has not responded to Cruz’s comments. Cruz’s last UFC fight came against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in the UFC San Diego Main Event in 2022 and lost his head-kick out.
