Dominick Cruz potentially reveals a potential problem with the current UFC ranking.
During a recent interview on the Maximum Podcast, Cruz was asked about the UFC ranking system and made a number of unique claims about how fighters are closed.
“My experience, the way the ranking is made, are according to how you wrote your contract last,” said Cruz.
“So if I wrote a big contract to fight you and I again negotiate Fight No. 4 and then they ask me to fight you a favor on a week of a week for a title, I have the opportunity to negotiate my contract again and I can probably get a good chunk. So let’s say that I still get more money than anyone in the division and I am.
“Now that they pay me, tell me, I just lost, they are going to give me number 10 now?” Cruz continued. “But I earn money to fight for a title. They are not going to pay me a title fee [for that]never. Do you see what I mean? So that is the true ranking is what your contract is written for. (((H/T MMA Fighting))
Fans were perplex when BMF title farmer Max Holloway debuted at number 8 in the UFC Lightweight Rankings only a few days after he had eliminated Justin Gaethje on UFC 300. Gaethje was ranked higher than Holloway despite the fact that he was on the receiving side of the Zemer-Klopping.
Islam Makhachev remained in the UFC Lightweight Rankings despite leaving the belt earlier this year. He will be confronted with UFC champion Welterweight Jack della Maddalena in the UFC 322 Main Event.
