In a winner-takes-all Game 7 to decide the American League pennant, the Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners to advance to the World Series.

The Mariners took a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, winning both on the road, but the Toronto Blue Jays also won the next two road games. Seattle took Game 5, but when the series returned to Canada the Blue Jays took Game 6 and forced Game 7 for the series. George Springer hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Toronto a 4–3 lead, and the score remained the same through the remainder of the game.

The World Series starts Friday evening in Toronto.

The 94-win Blue Jays are a feared team in the league, and for good reason.

They ran through the regular season behind the talents of the aforementioned Springer, who hit .309 with an OPS of .959, a bWAR of 4.8 and 32 home runs this season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays’ lanky first baseman, hit .292 with 23 home runs and 84 RBIs.

Toronto’s pitching staff is led by 34-year-old right-hander Kevin Gausman (a former draft pick of the Dodgers) who had a 3.59 ERA over 193 innings of work this season. He struckout 189 batters and walked only 50 through 32 starts.

Some of the other talented players on this deep Blue Jays roster include All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette, who hit .311 with 94 RBIs, and veteran Max Scherzer.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner is in year number 18 and, after showing some struggles in the regular season, had a solid start in Game 4 of the ALCS.

This will be another electric fall classic as these two powerhouses will play on the biggest stage and the Dodgers will become baseball’s first back-to-back champions in a quarter century.
