Dodgers win streak and lose first game of 2026

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their first game of the 2026 Cactus League play on Friday, falling 12-2 to the San Francisco Giants.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto made his final pitching appearance before leaving for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, pitching three innings and allowing two runs on five hits. During his outing, he struckout four batters.

The Giants got going early through Willy Adames, who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to put San Francisco on the board first.

LA responded quickly, however, as James Tibbs III blasted a triple down the first base line in the top of the second inning to tie the score at one. San Francisco scored again in the bottom of the second inning, but the Dodgers quickly responded with a single by Santiago Espinal that tied the score at two.

The game remained tied heading into the fourth inning, but the Dodgers’ bats went quiet as the Giants continued to pile up runs. San Francisco took the lead in the fourth inning with a one-run single, then broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth with a five-run frame. Jared Oliva hit his first of two two-run singles, and Victor Bericoto hit a three-run shot to give the Giants a six-run lead.

They tagged the Dodgers for four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Oliva recording two more RBIs, Patrick Bailey sticking an RBI single back up the middle and a throwing error putting another runner on the card.

Chris Newell managed a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to get a few runs back for the Dodgers, but that serves as some consolation as they suffered their first loss of the preseason.

Despite their loss, the Dodgers still have the fewest losses of any team in spring training and will look to bounce back on Saturday in their first split-squad games against the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs, both starting at 12:05 PM PT.

Do you think the Dodgers will bounce back tomorrow?
