Dodgers stars get honest about ‘low point’ of LA’s season, talk back about Battling

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman talked about the Dodgers’ lowest point of the season, as well as how they fought back from rock bottom to make a strong run in the postseason.

The Dodgers suffered their fifth straight loss to start September against the Baltimore Orioles on September 6, but that wasn’t why the loss hurt so much. Starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw 8.2 no-hit innings against the Orioles before a solo homer by Jackson Holliday broke the no-no.

Yamamoto came out of the game with two outs and a 3-1 lead, but the Dodgers seemed unable to close the game. The Dodgers failed to retire the next five batters, and the Orioles ran away from the Dodgers in a dramatic 4–3 victory.

“I definitely felt like it was the low point of the season,” Edman said. “I know a lot of teams that could have conceded at that moment.

“But we didn’t do that.”

The Dodgers then won their next four games and lost only one series for the remainder of the regular season. They carried their momentum into the postseason and are headed to the World Series for the second consecutive season after defeating the Milwaukee Brewers — whom they haven’t beaten once during the regular season — in the NLCS.

“I think it was a perfect time because that was devastating,” Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas said. “It was heartbreaking to lose that game when Yamamoto was one pitch away from a no-hitter and then lose that game against a team that’s not even in contention. You start thinking, ‘What’s wrong with us?'”

The Dodgers rediscovered their bats after their series loss to the Orioles, and also made some improvements in the bullpen during the postseason. Now the Dodgers are just four wins away from becoming the first repeat World Series champions since the New York Yankees in 1999 and 2000. The Dodgers don’t know their World Series opponent yet, but will be well rested for the series opener, which takes place on Friday.
