On Thursday, Ohtani was officially named the 2025 NL MVP after another great season as a pitcher and hitter. Ohtani won unanimously with all 30 first-place votes.
Ohtani was the 2024 NL MVP as a lone hitter after the first 50 home runs and 50 stolen base seasons in MLB history. In 2025, Ohtani not only hit a career-high 55 home runs, but also pitched 47 innings to the tune of a 2.87 ERA.
Ohtani also won American League MVP in 2023, giving him three consecutive MVP awards. Only Barry Bonds has achieved this feat after winning four times in a row between 2001 and 2004. Ohtani has won four MVP awards in the past five years.
Ohtani’s four MVPs are the second-most in MLB history, behind Bonds, who has seven.

Ohtani started his season as just a hitter as he worked his way back from a second major elbow surgery and offseason shoulder surgery after suffering a torn labrum during the 2024 World Series.
He got off to a hot start, hitting seven home runs in March/April before going nuclear with 15 home runs in May.
Ohtani then made his pitching debut on June 16, initially only one inning at a time. He pitched two games of just one inning, two games of just two innings, and then three games of just three innings before going up to four. He threw a season-high six innings in the final start of the regular season.
While pitching, Ohtani continued his impressive hitting, including nine home runs in July and ten in September. He finished the regular season with a slash line of .282/.392/.622, 55 home runs, 102 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, 146 runs scored and an OPS of 1.014.
As a pitcher, Ohtani made 14 starts and had an ERA of 2.87 with 62 strikeouts over 47 innings.
Ohtani made the All-Star Game and won a Silver Slugger award. He rounds out his regular season performance with his fourth career MVP award, which ranks him second-most all-time after Bonds.
Ohtani, of course, also helped lead the Dodgers to a second straight World Series victory while earning NLCS MVP honors.
