De Padres managed to keep the score for most of the night, but eventually lost to the Dodgers 3-2 Friday during the opening matchup of a three-game series that will determine the leader in the National League West.
With the loss, San DiegoAfter a short taste to be at the top alone, a draw for the division lead with the Dodgers fell, which broke a four-game series. The teams now also have identical 69-53 records.
After a quiet first inning, San Diego Die was also saw their five-game win-streak passing by the first team that placed songs on the board. In the first place of the second, Ramón Laureano, the outfielder sent to the Padres by Baltimore on the trade deadline of July 31, to the left field to make the score 1-0.
It was the 18th Homer of Laureano of the season and second for San Diego since they were traded.
In the third inning, the Michael Conforto of the Dodgers, who had been in third place, scored on a Shohei Ohtani ground ball to tie it at 1-1.
Moments later, with the bases were loaded, Mookie Betts delivered a sacrifice to midfielder Jackson Merrill so that Alex Freeland could score from third place to set up LA with 2-1.
In the seventh, Dodgers-Outfielder Teoscar Hernández hit his 19th Homer of the season, a 400-feet line to midfield that raised the Tales deficiency to 3-1.
Yuki Matsui quickly replaced Jeremiah Estrada on the hill for the brothers. It was one of the many pitching changes that took place during the game. Because pitcher Michael King was placed on the injured list the day before and was unable to make his planned start on Friday, the Padres went with a bull pen match.
Wandy Peralta opened and threw a collection and a third before he made way for Randy Vásquez in the second. Vásquez then threw to the bottom of the sixth, when he was drawn for Estrada. Estrada also went a collection and a third before he was exchanged for Matsui.
“Outside the Homer van Teoscar on Estrada, the bullpen was good and able to keep us there,” said Mike Shildt manager.
In the meantime, Dodgers Lefty Clayton Kershaw, an older statesman at the age of 37, threw a full six innings for LA before he was replaced by Ben Casparis.
In the eighth, Alex Vesia came in in East County for the Dodgers and gave the Padres an opening.
Almost immediately Jose Iglesias and Jake Cronenworth were hit by throws. Then Vesia Fernando Tatis Jr. ran, while the Padres loaded the bases without a single.
San Diego then cut the lead to 3-2 after Iglesias of the third was scored thanks to a louse Arraez sacrifice that flies to the left.
This led to a pitching change for the Dodgers, in which Blake Trains replaced Vesia by facing Manny Machado, who came out to end the threat.
With LA still on one, the Padres Mason Miller sent to Matsui, and he kept the Dodgers pointless, hit two, but San Diego was unable to deliver late game magic against Alexis Diaz and Jack Dreyer, who earned his second rescue.
The bats at the top of the Padres were quiet all night. Tatis, Arraez, Machado and Xander Bogaerts went a combined 0-out-14. Merrill, however, succeeded in two hits.
San Diego has lost six of the first eight games against the Dodgers this season. La belongs to one victory away from achieving the season series and a potential late season tiebreaker.
