The Colorado Rockies formed a pretty fight against the Los Angeles Dodgers and were looking for a series victory on Thursday, but a rough start on the hill and a slow offensive afternoon meant that the Rockies had to make satisfaction with a split.
It was another labor -intensive start for Rookie Chase Dollander. After having held his last time out of a little more than four innings, Dollander succeeded in having only 3 2/3 innings, and seven points stood up on nine hits. Again, Dollander had solid strikeout numbers with five and only two walks, but he continues to be hit hard and was forced to throw too many pitches. He threw a total of 97 throws, including 56 in fewer than two innings.
Dollander regularly spread fastballs, but could not fully determine his secondary fields and the zone was missed. Efficiency remains the biggest obstacle for him to overcome because he showed a lively fastball in the game, but the Dodgers benefited from the pitches they could touch.
A walk to Mookie Betts to start the game resulted in a first pitch-home run to Freddie Freeman to give the Dodgers a fast 2-0 lead. Two more runs came across in the second innings, one in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth.
It was the first time since 1 May 2023 that the Dodgers scored a point in each of the first five innings. They were helped by five extra base strokes with dollander who coughs four, while Nick Anderson surrendered a home run to Andy pages.
Although the rotation has remained inconsistent, the bullies of the Rockies has certainly been performed, and it was again a solid show of the arm shed to pick up the play. Anderson eventually went 2 1/3 innings and only gave one hit while he hit two. Dugan Darnell then took the pill for 1 1/3 innings, and although he does not give up a hit, he published three walks and was responsible for a run. Luis Peralta closed the eighth inning while Juan Mejia closed the ninth.
The Bullpen eventually only transmitted two points to three hits.
Chipping, but not enough
The Rockies did not have a terrible day on the record, but they just couldn’t struggle enough damage to Clayton Kershaw and the bullpen.
After going back with a point in the bottom of the first, Colorado added a point in the fourth and sixth to finally chase Kershaw out of the game. They added two more in the bottom of the eighth to pull within a 9-4 deficit, but the magic of the ninth inning was nowhere to be found.
The Rockies rose nine hits on the day and continue to improve with their strikeout figures. They spread six times and had a few walks, but only hit 1-out-7 with runners in a score position and only had three extra basehits.
After two, two starters had a hit on the day, with Jordan Beck gathering a few hits, including a double. The big day was from Brenton Doyle, who rode in four runs from the Rockies, including a Mammoet Twee-Run Homer in the eighth, his 13th of the season.
The Rockies are now going to Pittsburgh to start a weekend series against the Pirates. Antonio Senzatela makes his second start of the injured list on Friday and will compete against Braxton Ashcraft. The first pitch is planned at 4.40 pm MDT.
