Novak Djokovic conquered pain in his left ankle, the Shanghai humidity and the challenge of Jaume Munar to reach the quarterfinals at the Rolex Shanghai Masters for the 11th time on Tuesday.

The Serbian received several medical time-outs for a leg problem during the two hours, 40-minute collision and often placed an ice towel over his head while switching, with humidity levels of more than 82 percent. Djokovic threw up the court several times and, after losing the second set, collapsed before he received medical support.

Despite the challenging circumstances, however, the 38-year-old turned deeply to grind Munar 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in one of the most physical matches of the season.

After losing the second set, Djokovic used a crucial Munar error at the start of the third set to get the momentum back. Munar served on 0-0, 40/15 and missed a simple Smash-Wide, making an opening possible for the Serbian. Djokovic continued to break the service of Munar and was then aggressive in the decision maker in an attempt to shorten the rallies. The 40-time Masters 1000 champion produced a 9.6 shot quality in the third set in the third set, with an average speed of 84 mph on that battle to dictate and triumph.

Scotting quality measures the quality of the serve, return, forehand and backhand of the player on a scale of 0-10. They are calculated in real time by the speed, spider, depth, width and the impact it has to analyze the opponent of every shot.

Djokovic has reached the quarterfinals in all 11 of his Shanghai performances and found the trophy a record four times. The number 5 player in the PIF ATP ranking is the highest ranked left player in the draw and he will then meet Belgian Zizou Berg.

The Serbian chases a record-expanding 41st ATP Masters 1000 title and only since he won in Paris in 2023. Earlier this year he lost Czech Jakub Mensik in the Miami final of #NEXTGENATP. The record Seven-time Nitto ATP Finals champion is currently third in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, with a 35-10 that is in the year, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
