As expected, Saturday’s disheartening loss to Quinnipiac sent the Terriers plummeting in both national polls. BU lost five slots to #18 in the USCHO Division 1 Poll
and seven slots to #19 in the USA Hockey Poll.
Terriers are missing John Buccigross’ top 16 rankings.
The Boston Hockey Blog Sam Robb O’Hagen analyzes “What’s Wrong with BU Men’s Hockey?” He notes that there are many facets of the game that are underperforming: “But the sober reality is that after 12 games, BU’s star forwards are being outplayed by the top competition.”

What’s wrong with the BU men’s hockey team? A lot of. But the play of the Terriers’ top forwards is one of the problems.

A McKeen’s Hockey profile of leading 2026 NHL draft prospects in the OHL features 2026 recruit Caleb Malhotrawho has an 8-17-25 line in 21 games.
Caleb Malhotra has strengthened Brantford’s forward depth for a shot at the Memorial Cup, and he has impressed. Manny Maholtra’s son Caleb decided to leave the BCHL last summer and join the Bulldogs before playing with the Boston University Terriers in the NCAA next year.
After scoring about half a point per game with Chilliwack last year, Malhotra increased his production to 1.38 points per game through the first 13 games, centering the largely successful Dennis-Malhotra-O’Donnell line. Malhotra has found success in many aspects of his game early in the season, including his competitiveness, two-way consistency and playmaking. Caleb seems destined to become a middle-six center in the NHL, seemingly everywhere, causing havoc on defenses. With the puck, Caleb regularly finds creative plays from his arsenal to open lanes and drive to the center of the ice. But perhaps the most impressive part of Caleb’s play in the OHL is his unwillingness to lose. He never backs down and will fight anyone toe to toe to win every encounter. Even after losing the puck, Malhotra makes sure he gives his all to make life miserable for the opponent; he simply refuses to gracefully lose any interaction on the ice.
After watching Caleb it is clear that there is no real weakness in his game. His hockey skills are still developing, but are stronger than most other OHL centers in his class and have allowed him to create chances using his stick handling, foot speed and passing. More with videos
►►NeutralZone’s NHL Prospect Evaluations rates 2026 recruits Egor Shilov the #1 prospect from 2009 in the QMJHL and the #4 prospect among all QMJHL players.
Both Shilov and Malhotra have been selected for the two-game CHL-USA Prospects Challenge scheduled for Nov. 25 in Calgary and Nov. 26 in Lethbridge. NHL Network will air both games at 8:00 PM ET.
