Disney charged by the law firm that wants to use ‘Steamboat Willie’ in his advertisements – Slashdot

Mickey Mouse’s first movie Steamboat Willie entered the public domain in 2024.

Now one of America’s biggest personal injury companies is to sue Disney, reports the associated press”In an attempt to get a statement it could use Steamboat Willie In advertisements … ”
[The law firm said] It had contacted Disney to ensure that the entertainment company would not sue them if they used images from the animation film for their TV and online advertisements. Disney’s lawyers responded by saying that according to the court case they had not given legal advice to third parties. Morgan and Morgan said that it encouraged the lawsuit to make a decision, because otherwise it feared that Disney would have been charged because of trademark infringement as it used Steamboat Willie.
“Without a distance from his rights, Disney will not give such advice in response to your letter,” wrote Disney’s lawyers in their letter (add “very really yours …”). A Local news broadcast showed a glimpse of the letterTogether with a few seconds of the advertisement (who ends with Minnie Mouse who brings out a mobile phone to call a lawyer …)

Attorney John Morgan tells the news broadcast that the legal team of Disney “plays cute, so we just try to get a yes or no.
