Dietpop may no longer be the healthier option.

A new study showed that people who regularly drink sugar -free soft drinks have more than double the risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to the average person.

Drinks with a high sugar such as soft drinks and fruit juices have long been linked to the condition, but now researchers warn that artificial sweeteners can also cause problems.

The researchers discovered that people who have consumed drinks with a high saccharin – a common zero calories found artificial sweetener in cola diet and diet pepsi – run the highest risk.

They believe that saccharine can confuse the body. The brain can signal for insulin after detecting sweetness, but without processing real sugar, insulin regulation is disturbed over time, which may lead to insulin resistance.

Study author Lyn Steffen, an epidemiology professor at the University of Minnesota, has based on their findings, and suggested to “limit the use of each sweetener” and suggested choosing ‘unsweetened water, coffee, tea, milk or a small amount of 100 percent fruit juice’ for drinks.

The FDA approved the use of saccharin – 300 times sweeter than regular sugar – as a zero -calorie -alternative in 1977.

The researchers investigated the diets of 4,654 adults between 1985 and 2015.

The average intake of artificial sweeteners of the participants, diet drinks, aspartame (a low -calorie artificial sweetener) and sucralose (a synthetic artificial sweetener) were measured in the first year, seventh year and year 20.

The study – published in the Nutrition Journal – did not include people who regularly or occasionally drink full sugar Frisian drinks.

Based on their results, the participants were divided into groups to determine their chance of developing type 2 diabetes.

During this 30 -year period, 691 participants developed type 2 diabetes.

Results showed that the participants who consumed the most diet -Frisdranken in the 30 -year period had a 129 percent greater chance of developing type 2 diabetes than those who hardly drank diet drinks.

Moreover, the researchers also discovered that those who drank soft drinks that drank with saccharin had an 110 percent increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

No link was found between type 2 diabetes and aspartame or sucralose.

The observational study has not determined the reason why artificial sweeteners can lead to type 2 diabetes.

It also remains unclear how much of the nutritional soda was consumed by participants in each group.

Earlier research has shown that Voedes soft drinks are healthier alternatives to normal soft drinks for diabetes patients, because they cannot immediately increase blood sugar levels because they do not contain any ordinary sugar.

The researchers, however, believe that consuming excessive foods with artificial sweeteners that are generally much sweeter than real sugar, can disrupt the metabolism process of the body and can lead to excess sugar in the bloodstream.

But this is not the first time that Saccharine has come under fire.

A drug study from 2019 showed that long -term saccharin consumption increases the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, liver and kidney disorders in rats.

It can also lead to the development of brain cancer in rats.

According to the American Heart Association, men should not consume more than 36 grams or 150 calories of sugar per day, while women do not have to consume more than 25 grams or 100 calories of sugar per day.

Excess sugar consumption can clear the road for weight gain, high blood pressure, heart disease and insulin resistance, which can cause type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the condition and more than 37 million American adults suffer from this form of the chronic illness.

The CDC reports that more than 100,000 Americans die of type 2 diabetes every year.

It is caused by the pancreas that does not produce enough insulin – a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels – or the cells of the body do not respond well to insulin.

When you eat sugar, your body breaks up in glucose, which enters your bloodstream for energy absorption.

To regulate blood sugar levels, the pancreas releases insulin, so that glucose enters your cells for energy.

But consuming excessive amounts of sugar can make the body resistant to insulin, which means that it cannot effectively use the insulin to lower blood sugar levels.

This leads to high blood sugar levels and a structure of glucose in the bloodstream that can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart.

Although the chronic illness cannot be treated permanently, patients are advised to regulate their blood sugar levels through medication, healthy eating, physical activity and stress management.
