Diego Simeone praises son Giuliano’s form for Atletico – Soccer News

Diego Simeone revealed that his son, Giuliano, is “more confident” and “confident” as the forward continued his impressive form for Atletico Madrid.

The LaLiga team defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 3-1 in the Champions League, with Giuliano Simeone assisting Julian Alvarez’s opener before Conor Gallagher and Marcos Llorente added all three points.

The 22-year-old forward has now scored or assisted in four of his last five matches for Atleti, with his side also winning in all four of these matches.

It was a much-needed win for Atleti, who now have six points from their first four Champions League games.

Diego Simeone believes Giuliano gets better as he gets older, insisting he is not burdened by the family name.

“He is much more confident, self-assured,” Simeone told the media about his son. “He’s young, he’s learning, he wants more, he definitely wants more.

“To do that, he has to work hard, be humble and continue in the same way. For us, when he is in shape, he is very important.”

“He is very clear: he is Giuliano. He has said it a thousand times, he wants nothing more than to be Giuliano.”

“To get even better he needs what I said: hard work, humility and continuity, and not changing what he brings to the team.”

Alvarez has now been involved in goals 12 times in his last 11 Champions League appearances (nine goals, three assists), the same number as in his first 19.

He was also directly involved in 16 goals in the 11 home games he started in the league for both Manchester City and Atleti (11 goals, five assists).

“A great goal,” said Simeone when asked about Alvarez’s opener.

“Giuliano took advantage of his strength and speed in the one-on-one, it was decisive and Julián scored a beautiful goal, a shot from an important player.

“We wanted to end the game by attacking, they never changed their plan, they did bring in more tall players to try to create danger from set pieces.

“We had a chance to counter, as happened with Llorente (for the third goal), and it was a very tough match.”
