I noticed my old friend Conor Gallagher moved from Atletico Madrid to Tottenham for a paltry £35 million.
Was this a missed opportunity for Newcastle United?
Could he be the ‘Longstaff upgrade’ we seem to be missing?
I have been a great admirer of Conor Gallagher for a long time, but I would say we were right to miss this opportunity.
Firstly, he’s not the player I remember plundering the park and bringing in world class players when he was on loan at West Brom and Crystal Palace.
He has slowed down and become more defensive and physical, i.e. dirtier.
There’s a reason why Madrid fans called him pit bull!
Secondly, he reportedly earned £150,000 a week at Madrid and most likely increased that wage with his move to Spurs.
It’s not likely we’ll compete with those numbers at this point. That’s exactly how we missed a lot of targets over the summer.
Luckily, our Brazilian pit bull seems to have rediscovered his mojo lately, so I think we’ll be fine without Conor Gallagher.
Wolves are next.
Another huge game in the context of our push for the Champions League places.
While at the same time keeping our Wearyside neighbors in their rightful place, that is, among us.
Hooray the boys!
