When the domestic season of 2025-26 started, Cricket Fanatics Magazine Talked to Dian Forrester to discuss his goals and ambitions for the coming domestic season.

Forrester was also recently selected by the Joburg Super Kings to play for the franchise in the coming SA20 in December.

Dian Forrester is an all -rounder and more specifically he is a left -handed batsman and a fast fast bowler with the right arm. He started his South African Interior career with the knights before moving to the northwestern dragons. He was nominated as the newcomer of the year for the Domestic season 2024-25.

Forrester started the interview by emphasizing his goals and ambitions for the upcoming domestic season by saying,

“I am not really the type of player who sets specified goals for myself. I try it as well as possible as I can, so that I can be in the best possible space to win matches for my team. Occasionally the team I need to fulfill different roles or play in a specific way in a specific way, which I am happy to do. As a collective unit we want to try.”

He then indicated that he wants to improve the following aspects of his game:

“I was not happy with the way I left last season’s 4-day league. I had many soft Dismissals where I would take LBW out or nickle.

“There were also a few nail biters in the domestic T20 competition that I think I could have treated a little better. So yes, these are the areas that I work on when the season progresses.”

Forrester has consistently done high -quality versions for the parties in which he has played so far. On his list a debut for the Knights, he scored 128 from 100 balls and took 6 wickets in the game (including a hat trick). He was also one of the leading Run scorers for the Knights and scored 560 points in 11 innings on an average of 62.22 during the 2023/24 season.

On May 14, 2025, he also did not score 96 and had bowling figures of 2/31 in the 2nd unofficial ODI between emerging South Africa and Bangladesh.

After 4 wickets and scoring 66 in the match against KZN Inland in Game One of the 4-day competition 2025-26, Forrester indicated that he has the next routine to prepare well for both bat and ball:

“I think that last season I concentrated too much on my batting and my bowling a bit neglected. With regard to the specific batting, I have developed a nice routine where I will do my large volume tax two days before a competition with many side arm exercises and concentrate on my main position.

“On the bowling side of things I have never clamped so much during the low season that I have done in recent months. I also focused on doing a lot of 10-meter work that helped. I am the type of bowler that if I get a bouncing, I know I bow well.”

He also assumed his luck that he was selected by the Joburg Super Kings for the upcoming SA20 by saying:

“I am very excited and honored that I have been selected by the Joburg Super Kings. I like to have the chance to talk to more experienced players such as Faf du Plessis and Wian Mulder.

“I am lucky that I know Donovan Ferreira to play at Tuks and he flows into a similar position like me, so I am excited to also have the chance to learn from him.”

He continued on his ambitions for the SA20 by saying:

“I want to be part of a team that wins games and trophies. I personally want to improve my mindset during close games and also improve my decision-making in such situations.”

During his career, Forrester has consistently demonstrated that he is willing to embrace new experiences.

In 2022 he played Clubcricket in Scotland as a player-coach for Aberdenshire. He was also signed by North Down Cricket Club in Noord -Ireland, who further emphasizes his willingness to challenge himself in new environments.

When he was asked about his experience that played for the north -western dragons so far (after he had moved from the knights), Forrester said:

“I have great fun to be every second of the dragons since moving. The team culture is great and we are all driven by the same goal and norms.

“If someone does not satisfy these standards, a teammate or coach will call it. The land and the city have great facilities and everything is close together.

“People like my coach (Mr. Craig Alexander) and teammate Alfred Mothoa have been really helpful on a personal level.”

The majority of the all-rounders who played for South Africa recently seem to bowle all-rounders and, apart from Wian Mulder, there seem to be fewer batting all-rounders who regularly play for the Proteas.

The experience of playing and chatting with boys like Wian Mulder and a coach like Stephen Fleming (in addition to coaching world class that he received at the North-West Dragons) will be a valuable experience for him.

It is believed that Forrester could serve as a good backup (and possibly take over) players like Wian Mulder, because he has already shown the technical and mental characteristics that prove that he is ready for international cricket.

We at Cricket Fanatics Magazine want to thank him for the interview and we wish him the very best for the coming season.
