Devin Booker is finally breaking the silence as he returns to being the face of the franchise

While Devin Booker has been the cornerstone of the Phoenix Suns franchise for as long as we can remember, he wasn’t always viewed that way during his time with Kevin Durant. Even though he was still number one on the posters and the fans loved him as much as ever, Booker didn’t mind delaying Durant on the court.

This led to a weird dynamic that you don’t often see, where the face of the team offensively was sometimes the second option, but it only emphasized what a great teammate Booker is. He doesn’t care who gets the honor, the 29-year-old just wants to win for The Valley. This season, the Suns are all about Booker again, and he is flourishing.

Booker likes the responsibility that comes with his role.

The superstar spoke to the media ahead of the Suns’ matchup with the Golden State Warriors, and was asked what it means to be the undisputed face of the franchise once again. This is a team that has no championship aspirations and is instead trying to rebuild their roster from the bottom up, and as you can see in the video below, Booker is here for everything.

He also looks a more relaxed figure than we saw at the start of the season, but winning games and seeing a lot of the ball will have that impact on any player. The thought had been that he might become disillusioned with having taken the bag to play out some of his best years on a roster that would struggle to make the play-in.

But for now, at least, Booker is enjoying the responsibility that comes with being the guy, while also showing love to those who respect him for being loyal to the franchise that drafted him. If one day he decided to leave to pursue a championship, even though the fans would be crushed, they would understand.

Booker has been one of the most loyal servants in Suns history. He never complained and just continued doing his job regardless of who the organization placed around him. He’s clearly enjoying playing with some of his new teammates as well, with sophomores like Ryan Dunn looking ready to step up and help Booker with the heavy lifting.

To see him happy at this point in a long season – while also clearly understanding what he means to Phoenix when he’s home and away – is a brilliant outcome for a franchise that has taken a big step back this season. As long as he can see the big picture here and the front office makes the right moves around him, Devin Booker isn’t going anywhere.
