Devin Booker continues the epic references with a book 2 inspired by Spike Lee’s “Urban Jungle Gym”

The incredible series of Player Exclusives and retail releases of the Nike Book 1 were solid evidence that Devin Booker honors the history of Nike basketball and sneaker culture. It’s those references to previous releases and moments that made his signature debut shoe such a strong storyline in its two years of existence, but it has raised the bar for his second model.

We got off to a great start when Devin arrived in the NYC area (Phoenix has back-to-back games against the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets) in honor of a local legend: Spike Lee. Inspired by ‘Urban Jungle Gym’, an overly colorful advertising campaign championed by Spike Lee in 1992, this Book 2 features the same multi-coloured African-inspired mosaic on the midsole as on the iconic Air Raid 2. The Urban Jungle Gym collection launched in the early 1990s and later retro-inspired collections features a peace sign; the same emblem is embroidered on the heel of Book 2. The heel reads “Live Together”, a meaningful phrase from the series. Finally, Devin’s logo on the tongue is done in the same artistic way as Spike’s legendary campaign.

Booker’s reverence for Nike ephemera dates back to his rookie year; he owns an original version of the Nike Urban Jungle Gym varsity jacket; he bought it at a vintage store during or just before his rookie year.
