Derby County have added Christoph Buhler to John Eustace’s coaching staff BBC Sports Derby.
Derby County backed John Eustace with some solid signings during the winter transfer window. The play-off dream is alive at DCFC and the club are not resting on their laurels amid strong competition for the top six.
While the focus has been on adding players, it appears there is also an eye to expanding John Eustace’s backroom team. His staff is quite established, as is he in office for almost a yearbut a new face has now joined the ranks.
As reported by BBC Sports DerbyChristoph Buhler has joined Derby County’s backroom team. It is said that he will be responsible for the opposition’s understanding while also playing a role in integrating academy players into the first-team squad.
Buhler arrives at Pride Park more than 18 months after his last coaching role.
Who is the new Derby County coach Christoph Buhler?
Derby County FC News
Buhler’s name may not be familiar to Derby County fans, but his coaching journey will be. The 48-year-old started out in the lower divisions of German football before joining Hoffenheim in 2007.
Here he worked for the first time with David Wagner, as his assistant in the youth academy. Buhler would reunite with Wagner at Borussia Dortmund II and followed him to Huddersfield Town, FC Schalke, BSC Young Boys and, most recently, Norwich City.
Buhler has remained out of the game since Wagner and his coaching staff were relieved of their duties at Carrow Road in 2024.
He seems very well equipped for his role at DCFC. An experienced coach with a history in England, he will be well versed in opponent analysis and his early spells in youth coaching should make him the ideal figure to transition the talents from the Rams academy to the senior group.
The coaching addition follows a productive transfer window for Derby County
As Buhler completes the procedure at Derby County, a number of players will do exactly the same.
Oscar Fraulo and Derry Murkin both committed to permanent contracts during the winter transfer window and will suit up ahead of their careers at Pride Park. Sammie Szmodics and Jayden Banel have also signed up as new rental toppers.
It was a productive winter transfer window for DCFC, which could send them into the play-offs. Eustace’s side are 7th, two points behind Wrexham in 6th.
Next up for the Rams is a home game against automatic promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys have one of the strongest squads in the division, but have dropped points in both of their last two matches, losing ground on the top two.
