The NBA suspended Dennis Schroder for three games on Saturday for confronting and attempting to attack Luka Doncic following the Sacramento Kings’ 125-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on December 28. Schroder will miss the rematch between the teams in Sacramento on Monday.
Doncic and Schroder exchanged words during various points of the game. During a timeout, Doncic taunted Schroder and told him he “should have signed that contract,” referring to the four-year, $82 million extension Schroder turned down from the Lakers a few years ago.
Things seemed to cool down as the match ended. But Schroder left the visitors’ locker room at the Crypto.com Arena, spotted Doncic and tempers flared again in the tunnel opposite the home bench.
Forty minutes after the buzzer, Schroder went after Doncic and told him he can’t call him a “b—-” on the court and pretend everything is fine off the court. The NBA concluded that Schroder attempted to attack Doncic.
Deandre Ayton tried to drag Schroder away from the confrontation, while a stunned Doncic tried to get away when security intervened. Schroder was eventually escorted to the team bus as Kings coach Doug Christie and several teammates sought answers about the sudden tragedy.
Doncic and his father Sasa eventually walked to their nearby car and left while Schroder and his Kings teammates prepared to leave on the team bus.
