Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner was mocked Wednesday after declaring that “dismantling ICE” is a “moderate” position after federal immigration authorities shot and killed a Minneapolis woman who allegedly posed a threat to them as they attempted to conduct enforcement operations.

“When you send armed, undertrained amateurs into American communities with vague orders and no accountability, this is inevitable,” the Maine Democrat said. Platner said on X with accompanying video. “ICE must be dismantled.”

“Dismantling ICE is the moderate position. Unmask these criminals, arrest them and hold them accountable for these horrors,” he said in another X post.

The woman fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning has been identified by The Minneapolis City Council members like Twin Cities resident Renee Nicole Good, 37. Good was shot by an ICE agent after she blocked a road where law enforcement officers were traveling during an operation and “appeared to arm her vehicle” to strike law enforcement officers, prompting DHS to call it an “act of domestic terrorism.”

Council members called the incident an “attack” and demanded that ICE “immediately leave our city so we can rid ourselves of their chaos and violence that ended the life of one of our neighbors today.” That sentiment was echoed by progressive Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who told immigration authorities to leave his city.

“This man has no moderation,” said Tim Graham of the Media Research Center.

“The guy with a literal Nazi tattoo on his chest sounds like he’s calling for maximum violence against ICE, but absolutely calling for the weaponization of the justice system against ICE at the very least,” added Brianna Lyman, election correspondent at The Federalist.

“We should all love something as much as Democrats love open borders,” GOP consultant Luke Thompson wrote on X.

“The same liberals who wanted to dismantle the police want to dismantle ICE,” Alabama Senate candidate Morgan Murphy wrote on X. “Absolutely not: Support ICE. Support law enforcement.”

Platner has come under fire in the past for a tattoo on his chest that critics claimed resembles a ‘Totenkopf’, a Nazi ‘skull’ symbol, but he has denied claims that this is what it represents and said he has made his position on Nazism clear.

Platner, a progressive Democrat, also recently came under fire for calling himself a “communist” in now-deleted posts on Reddit. In one of the messages he wrote: “I grew older and became a communist”, but then claimed that they were just “internet messages”.

After the Minneapolis shooting involving ICE, protesters took to the streets, including in front of a Minneapolis courthouse, where they were seen on video banging on glass doors and windows and demanding, “ICE Out Now!”
