The government of Delhi will encourage the Supreme Court to allow the use of green fireworks during Diwali, said Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday. “We will encourage the Supreme Court to allow the use of green fireworks for Diwali,” she said reporters in the national capital.

CM Gupta emphasized that the move balances the feelings of millions that celebrate the festival and the government’s dedication to curb pollution and protect the environment. “I believe that Delhi’s problems are in their place, and working on them is one solution, but there are millions of people in the country who are religious, for whom Diwali is a very large festival, connected to emotions … In such a situation I can understand that they should get permission for this (use of Firecrackers), whether they can be celebrated in the form of green crackers.

SC forbids sales of ‘Elke Crackers’ in Delhi-NCR
In September 2025, the Supreme Court had banned the sale of crackers in Delhi-NCR, including green crackers. In the meantime, the court allowed the manufacturers of Green Crackers to continue their production.
