Former UFC doubles champion Daniel Cormier recently gave his thoughts on why he thinks a fight between Arman Tsarukyan and Ilia Topuria should happen sooner or later.
Ahalkalakets’ had drafted Topuria earlier this year following his second-round win over Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar. However, the Georgian-Spaniard quit for personal reasons and has done so ZERO interest in the battle.
The constantly back and forth between Tsarukyan and Topuria on the internet has shown the bad blood between the two. The Armenian believes ‘El Matador’ is avoiding him, and Topuria believes ‘Ahalkalakets’ does not deserve a second title shot after withdrawing from the UFC 311 title fight against Islam Makhachev.
For Tsarukyan, fighting for the undisputed title may soon look impossible as the promotion has announced an interim title fight between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje to headline UFC 324. The winner of this fight will fight Topuria later this year to unify the titles.
Daniel Cormier picks Arman Tsarukyan as the current best UFC lightweight, says Topuria vs Tsarukyan should happen
‘DC’ recently shared his thoughts on who he thinks is the best lightweight in the UFC right now. Cormier selected Arman Tsarukyan as the current top 155-pounder. The 46-year-old also added why he thinks Ilia Topuria vs. Tsarukyan must be done. He told Red Corner MMA:
“I think Arman Tsarukyan is doing everything he can to stay active. Listen man, this guy might be the best lightweight in the world since Islam disappeared. He’s really good. He’s big, strong and physical. The champion, Ilia Topuria, is great. I think Ilia and Arman are the two best guys in the world. I think they should fight at some point because I think Paddy Pimblett is great, Justin Gaethje is great. Arman and Ilia It looks like they have something. And not just something in terms of skills, but also between the two, that we can build a great fight around… They have to fight at some point.”

On the other hand, after being denied a second title shot, Tsarukyan has already declared himself the beltless champion. He posted on Threads:
“It’s not without reason that number 1 is next to my name. The belt is just a formality at this point.”
