Day 1 of trying one "web design Renaissance" to unleash, to bring back fun and soul to the internet (it’s not easy…)

Hello everyone

Two posts ago I wrote a long rant about how modern web design was stagnant, soulless, and probably not even “efficient” in terms of marketing.

I feel like people (designers AND business owners) need to work towards a “web design renaissance” by bringing more personality into websites like they used to, while keeping user comfort in mind.

Some people said “well, try something”, so I tried it: my hypothesis was that for most companies the hero is usually a waste of screen space, and I tried to make it a place where 90% of users could join in without scrolling/clicking.

I also tried to add real ‘materiality’ into the design, to give the feeling of a physical board with paper.

The idea was to make the website a warm and welcoming place that provides the energy you would expect from a physical barbershop, making the brand stronger.

That said, I’m not a real designer and it’s far from perfect or revolutionary. Here it still looks blocky and plain despite the “wood”.
But I will try to post more and investigate/validate/debunk hypotheses each time, taking criticism into account.

I would love it if more real designers would do this exercise to revive old-fashioned web design energy in a modern way
