Everton will look to return to winning ways on home soil after recent losses to Arsenal and Brentford.
Having not won at Hill Dickinson Stadium since early December, the Toffees will take their chances against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, Wolves, who are having one of the worst campaigns in recent memory, come into this match on the back of their first win of the season against West Ham United last time out.
Everton, meanwhile, continue to miss several key players and despite recent losses at home, boss David Moyes praised the “great atmosphere” in the stadium, while also acknowledging the “difficult period” the club is going through at this stage of the season.
“I think the stadium is beautiful,” Moyes explained. “The support has been fantastic as always.
“We always say keep your voice loud and keep supporting the team. Considering where we’ve been the last few years, we should be behind a team that deserves it. The players deserve the support because of where they’ve been.”
“Obviously we get support when we play well and win. We are constantly trying to progress. We are trying to get better and we have to try to do that.”
“But this is a bit of a difficult period for us and I hope the Everton supporters will understand that too. A bit too few players, also a few away at Afcon, but it just makes life a bit more uncomfortable for us.”
Jarrad Branthwaite, Seamus Coleman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are all out with hamstring problems, while Charly Alcaraz is missing with an unspecified injury. The Toffees are also missing their Senegalese stars Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye who are currently at Afcon.
Despite this absence, the Blues are unlikely to be active during the January transfer window. “No, I think it’s probably more unlikely than likely that we add to the roster,” he said.
“But I wouldn’t quite say that because obviously we’re looking out there to see what’s there and if we can get something.
“But I just don’t want to get everyone’s hopes up. When I say probably, you might think that means we’re on to something.”
“We are looking at some players and seeing if we can add something and if that is possible we will do so, but we have been very careful about it.”

He thinks/hopes that (as usual) downplaying expectations about transfer market activity will help keep prices down, especially in January. There has been a tendency to wait until the end of the period in search of late bargains, but by then hopefully most or all of our absentees will have returned.
Let’s hope that no one else breaks in the meantime, and also that we haven’t dropped too many points.

I think Moyes definitely has the right kind of face to deliver that mostly bad news, but he would have made a nice undertaker.
