Minnesota and California, two of the country’s most left-wing, Democratic-controlled states, are both in the midst of fraud scandals of simply breathtaking proportions, while model red states like Florida and Texas are flourishing. We really need to ask ourselves: why?

In Minnesota, despite most of the local news media being sidelined for years as an elite NFL receiver, $9 billion in fraud and growing are being exposed, much of it perpetrated by the fast-growing and bright blue Somali community.

It all happened under the lazy watch of Minnesota’s Democratic governor and failed “white taco” vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Much of this fraud centers on social service programs such as daycares and transportation to the doctor, but there are no children, no rides given, just bribes, often tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars at a time.

The situation in the Golden State is little better, with a recent audit leading to estimates that a staggering “$72 billion” may have been siphoned from taxpayers, according to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s own accountant.

And here too, social services appear to be at the heart of the alleged theft. For example, payment errors on food assistance benefits could cost the state $2.5 billion in federal funds, according to the report.

There’s also a bullet train to nowhere that has wasted so much money that the Trump administration is now taking money out of it.

Even some California Democrats, like Rep. Ro Khana, are calling this out now. The congressman told me, “The extent of fraud in Sacramento with the $72 billion IG report is staggering. Waste and fraud during COVID, with infrastructure projects and services. We need strong new leadership that will clean up Sacramento.”

So why are these blue states awash with fraud, while red states like Florida and Texas thrive? Even ruby-red West Virginia has seen its credit rating rise in the past year.

One answer is simply that there is more money to steal. California has approximately 39 million residents and a state budget of $298 billion; Compare that to Florida, which has a population of 23 million, but a budget of only $116 billion.

Based on these calculations, California spends about $7,600 per resident, while the Sunshine State brings in only $5,000 per resident, and we now know that much of this gap is due to blatant fraud.

To make matters worse, as blue states implement more and crazier forms of social assistance and welfare, such as paying people as home health aides or providing care to young people, no money is being spent to increase surveillance. In other words: no one looks at the pot of tax money.

There’s also a bullet train to nowhere that has wasted so much money that the Trump administration is now taking money out of it.

Furthermore, almost every blue state and city in America adds a budget line for DEI or funds reserved for “marginalized” populations to almost every spending bill they pass. This is wasteful to say the least, but even if no crime is committed, isn’t giving millions of dollars to a nonprofit to create an anti-racist PowerPoint presentation grafting on its own?

The sheer scale of this fraud in blue states may not be a coincidence, but it could be the key to why it took so long to expose.

In the first decade of the 20th century, according to the book “Philadelphia, Corrupt and Compliant,” Israel Durham, the political machine boss of the Republican Party in Philadelphia, was asked by a reporter how his party could possibly hope to get away with all the corruption of recent Mayor Samuel Ashbridge. His answer today is both timely and a bit chilling. “If we did any of these things on our own,” Durham opined, “the newspapers and the public could focus on it, get the facts and fight.” But we reasoned that if we spread them all fast and furiously, one, two, three, one after the other – the newspapers wouldn’t be able to handle them all and the public would be stunned and give up…’

But many Americans, including frustrated voices in California and Minnesota, are not giving up; in fact, they have only just begun. Will voters in these states now choose Republican candidates? Will responsible Democratic leaders step up? Or will the transplant continue as normal? Agreed, almost?

It’s impossible to say. But what can be said is that as long as this division between red and blue states exists, Florida and Texas can expect their populations to continue to grow. Because it turns out that Americans really like good government.
