The Dodgers are getting pretty good in this entire “Wear a no-hitter in the later innings and loss still”.
Shohei Ohtani left on Tuesday evening after five innings after he had not allowed a hit to the Phillies, only to see the first Reliever surrender a four-run lead in a 9-6 house loss.
This heavy setback comes not long after Yoshinobu Yamamoto wore a no-hitter by 8 2/3 innings against the Orioles, only for Baltimore to win the game.
Dodgers -Manager Dave Roberts explained that the team is sticking to his progression for Ohtani on his return from Tommy John Surgery.
“Yes, I had been nice to let him go outside, but the conversation was that if he is efficient, he can go to the sixth inning, that’s another conversation,” said Roberts. “But it was a hard five innings and that’s how it goes, and boys have to do their job.”
The Dodgers try to ensure that they have a healthy ohtani for the play -offs – possibly against the Mets – and they are deliberately with their trial for the likely NL MVP.
On Tuesday his 13th start, but only the second in which he completed five innings.
The Dodgers still have to extend him from the 87 fields, but Ohtani had only threw 68 on Tuesday while he had been throwing five batters and one ran to protect a 4-0 lead.
Kirsten Watson from Sportnet LA reported during the bottom of the fifth that Roberts approached the two -way phenomenon to see how he felt with a potential historic night on the horizon.
“(Roberts) said,” How do you feel? Do you want to go outside again? “Said Watson. “And it was funny because Shohei said,” No, it’s up to you. ” And he goes, “Okay, but do you feel good?” He said, “I like.”
Dodgers -star First -Honkman Freddie Freeman even ribbed his manager about the move, and the cameras conquered him laughing while the two spoke.
“Freddie teased him like:” Oh, I know you look stressed with that decision, “Watson reported,” but in the end it was the most important thing to get Shohei to five. “
Ohtani traced freaist with Justin Wrobleski, so that a single was to the second batter with which he was confronted and yielded five points in what would be a six-run frame for the Phillies.
While the Dodgers came in the eighth for two to bind the game, the Phillies hit back with three in the ninth to take their second right against the NL West leaders.
Roberts indicated that he did not regret how he dealt with the situation.
“He wouldn’t go back,” said Robert. “In every situation we have been very steadfast as far as the collection for his use, from one inning to two innings to three to four to five. We have not deviated from that. So I tried to get his pulse for the continuation of the future, in which he goes, you go to the sixth inning. Innings.”
“He is too important and if something happens, then that is up to me to change that and we didn’t do that, so I’m not going to do that now.”
Ohtani did not express frustration about the call after he had lowered his era to 3.29 and his 50th Homer.
“As a player I want to throw as long as possible, but I also understand and respect the decision that the front office and the manager make,” said Ohtani through a translator.
“I was asked how my body felt (in the fifth) and so I said that I felt good, my things were good. So it is ultimately up to the manager to make the decision.”
The Dodgers (84-67) lead the Padres through two games in the NL West, but their hope for a first round bye almost seems to be over because they are now following the Phillies with 6 1/2 games for the number 2 seed.
Los Angeles will take a lot of account of both Playoff races, because it has the remaining series against contenders in the Giants, Diamondbacks and Mariners.
