Personal financial broadcaster Dave Ramsey Says of marital honesty beats every bank balance, reprimanding a caller who admitted “millions of dollars” to hide from his wife because she “spends too much”.

What happened: “You have been married for five years … She didn’t know you have money. That is deception,” Ramsey told The man on the Ramsey show.

The caller, raised in California after he was born in South Korea, said, “I am the saver and she is the spender,” and feared that their assets would reveal her power would “frighten” her. Ramsey briefly asked: “Are you from a different culture?” Explanation: “Because in Anglo-America, what you have just described, there is a lot of struck.”

When the man insisted that several money personalities justified the secret, Ramsey cut him: “Honey, you don’t listen … you actively misled your wife.” He added that the real motive of the husband was fear.

Ramsey, married 43, said that relational wealth weighs heavier than financial wealth. “I appreciate a quality marriage and relationship that enters my old age … I appreciate that more than money. You don’t do that, so I have problems with your contact with you.”

He warned that the delay will only deepen the infringement: “The longer you say this, the worse this will get. This is a strange thing you have done and you have to possess that.”

Why it matters: Ramsey’s firm attitude reflects advice that he has given other callers who tried to hide windfalls or inheritance. Deception is not healthy, he told a woman who protects cash against her husband.
