Lanoba had just moved from New Jersey to Red Hook in May, opening an 8,000-square-foot space at 481 Van Brunt Street, in the iconic Beard and Robinson Stores on the waterfront piers. Lanoba founders and husband and wife team Lars Noah Balderskilde and David Singh import containers of furniture and ceramics that they source themselves in Denmark and have developed a devoted following for their extensive selection and the high quality of their finds.

They were among countless small businesses and artists who lost almost everything after a fire broke out in the warehouse on September 17. Red Hook residents have done their part to support it affected by the fireincluding Lanoba. “It has allowed us to stay in Red Hook,” Singh told Brownstoner.
The Red Hook Cideryat 185 Van Dyke Street, provided space, allowing Lanoba to open on October 31. Shoppers already came by on Friday when Brownstoner visited, and some items were already marked with sold stickers.

The fact that there are items for sale is thanks to a container of goods that was stuck at customs in the days prior to the fire. Balderskilde and Singh were finally able to clear out the items, put their staff back to work, refurbish the pieces and reopen them in a short time. (All furniture that was in the warehouse at the time of the fire was lost to water damage and mold.) Another container is expected soon, including nearly 100 dining tables, just in time for the holiday season.
The temporary space is smaller, but has the same mix of newly renovated dressers, desks, chairs and tables. There is also an ‘as is’ section. The store is open from Friday to Sunday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. The duo told Brownstoner they hope to be back in their original space by early 2026.
