Daniil Medvedev ends up on John Isner’s ‘naughty list’

John Isner put Daniil Medvedev on his ‘naughty list’, but the 2018 Wimbledon semi-finalist noted that this was not because of the Russian’s personality, but because he has a tendency to impose fines.

On the latest episode of the Nothing Major Show, Isner, Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson and Jack Sock decided to play a game and make “a naughty list.” Some players were not called because of their play, but more because of their personality.

In making his choice, former world number 8 Isner named the Russian. However, the ex-American tennis star was quick to emphasize that he was not shading the 2021 US Open champion or anything like that.

“It’s going to be Medvedev, not because of his antics off the court, but because of his antics on the court. You get a couple hundred thousand dollars in fines during the year and you’re on the naughty list. Australia had a major. China Open had a major. The US Open had a major,” Isner said on the Nothing Major Show.

What Medvedev said about his on-field antics?

Just before kicking off his US Open campaign and causing a stunning meltdown that caused a huge riot and a six-minute delay, Medvedev said he was mostly calm off the court and that his on-court antics only happen because his adrenaline is at its peak.

“Off the court, it’s rare that my adrenaline goes through the roof. When I’m on the court, I hate to lose; I love to win. My first goal is to win the match, so it brings out a lot of adrenaline and it brings out all the energy. Sometimes it’s a good energy, sometimes it’s a bad energy,” the 29-year-old explained just before the US Open.

After losing to Benjamin Bonzi in the first round of the US Open, Medvedev refused to talk too much about what happened on the court as he was already expecting a huge fine. Ultimately, the former world number 1 was fined $42,500.
